Nurse Practitioner Global Health Immersion in Nigeria

In 2022 nurse faculty partnered with THE NIGERIAN HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION INC. (NHF) along with New York University and Long Island University to send 5 nursing students to Nigeria on a medical mission. The purpose of this trip was to engage students and prepare them to care for clients in diverse settings while incorporating best practice in underserved or impoverished communities. Students were mentored by to nurse practitioner faculty for a 2 week period. over 1400 clients were seen and nursing students developed critical thinking and advanced clinical decision making skills.

Students were surveyed using both and quantitate approaches. Students were primarily women of color and were engaged in leadership projects in there nursing programs.
